Marine Atlantic

For the ship owner Stena RoRo has established and maintained relations with Marine Atlantic since the ´70s and when Marine Atlantic needed tonnage for the Port aux Basques (Newfoundland) to North Sydney (Nova Scotia) route, Stena RoRo provided the vessels Stena Trader and Stena Traveller through the ship owner. Both vessels were too long for this trade and a shortening of twelve metres was necessary to maintain a reliable service.

The modifications of StenaTrader and Stena Traveller also included an increase of the passenger capacity from 300 to 1,000 by adding an extension to the existing accommodation block, installation of a third bow thruster and installation of two tier loading fore and aft. A hoistable car deck was also added on the maindeck in order to better optimize the mix between cars and commercial vehicles. Both conversions were carried out at the Shipyard Lloyd Werft in Bremerhaven, with delivery of the first vessel in December 2010 and the second vessel in February 2011. The two vessels are now named Blue Puttees and Highlanders.

This is a typical Stenability deal.
