Admiral Danish Fleet – ADF
ADF is responsible for the logistic management of the Danish Defence. The Ark Forwarder, today MSC Bridge, was through Stena RoRo chartered to ADF for a five-year long time-charter. In the past, Stena RoRo has worked with both the Ministry of Defence (MOD) in the UK and the transportation provider for the Department of Defence in the US, the Military Sealift Command (MSC).
This company was established back in 2004 with the goal of becoming a leader in the freight- and passenger sector linking Italy and Albania. Their main route is between Ancona, Italy and Durres, Albania. For this line Adria Ferries chartered a Stena ferry in 2017. This ferry, the Stena Egeria, is sailing under the charter-name AF Michela. Adria Ferries also has daily service to Durres from Bari and Trieste.
ATTICA GROUP – BLUE STAR
The leading ferry company in Greece, the Attica Group, chartered one of the Stena RoRo RoPax vessels on a long term charter – Norman Asturias, today named Connemara. She was trading between Greece and Italy.
Stena RoRo is a ship supplier for Balearia, both in chartering and in sales. We have chartered both freight vessels and passenger vessels for different types of operations, such as bareboat charter and time charter. The collaboration with Balearia is one of our most long-lasting relationships, and we are looking forward to the next opportunity.
Brittany Ferries is a maritime company that was born out of a wish to open up and to connect the relatively isolated region of Brittany. They started in 1972 with a mission to transport Brittany’s vegetables across the channel. Today they are the most prominent french ship operator/owner with a liner net linking France with Great Britain, Ireland, Spain and Portugal. During the years Stena RoRo has been instrumental in chartering in/out tonnage to/from Brittany Ferries. Also, at the moment, Stena RoRo is building RoPax vessels for Brittany Ferries in China with delivery 2020/21. These projects have brought the two companies – Stena and Brittany Ferries – even closer.
In the past Stena RoRo collaborated with the French company Sudcargos for more than a decade. They are now fully integrated with CMA CGM, the world’s third largest container shipping group, with whom Stena RoRo have a long-term collaboration with. The vessel Mont Ventoux carries trailers, containers and project cargoes such as tram sets, cranes, etc. between Marseille and Tunis.
Stena RoRo has been a regular ship supplier for freighters i.e. RoRo vessels for the state owned company Cotunav. Their demanding trade is between North Africa to Europe, mainly France, Spain and Italy. Recently they had our Stena 4-Runner Mk-II class vessel Stena Forecaster on charter for an extended period.
Crowley Liner Services
Crowley Liner Services is a major trailer and container operator. Its customers include cruise ship operators for whom they transport provisions. Stena RoRo had a close collaboration with Crowley during the 80’s and 90’s with numerous vessels on charter. Later they transformed their business from RoRo to Container ships, which is why we no longer provide vessels for their operation. Today we still have a close collaboration with Crowley in respect of projects in the Americas.
Over decades Stena RoRo has, from time to time, chartered out tonnage to DFDS and formed a good working collaboration. Stena RoRo has also been instrumental in selling ships to DFDS. Within 2021, Stena will deliver a RoPax newbuild to DFDS, which will be a long term charter.
Stena RoRo has had a long business relationship with the family-owned company Gruppo Grendi, by chartering out several Stena 4-Runner Mk-I class vessels to them for successful domestic trade in Italy. Gruppo Grendi is a logistic shipping company with 190 years of experience.
The New Zealand ferry company Interislander operates several vessels connecting Wellington on the Northern island with Picton on the Southern island. Today we have our RoPax vessel Kaiarahi on charter which has been chartered by Interislander for numerous years across Cook Strait. The journey takes about three hours and has been described as one of the most beautiful ferry trips in the world.
Intershipping with its headquarters in Tangier, Morocco, has been operating its services since November 2012. In February 2014 Stena RoRo delivered the first RoPax ship Stena Feronia for their service in the Gibraltar Strait. The ship was later exchanged to Norman Asturias, today Connemara, trading between the UK and the continent. Stena RoRo has chartered both ferries and freighters to Intershipping, the last one being the Stena Carrier which capacity impressed the charterers.
ldS – airbus
Stena Forecaster, one of three Stena 4-Runner Mk-II vessels, are trading between Europe and the United States, with valuable and sensitive aircraft parts. It is a high qualitative operation where we work in close collaboration with both the charterers, LDS, and their customer Airbus.
During several years Mann Lines was one of the most important charters for Stena RoRo with its trades between the Baltic Sea and the continent with various project cargos and special shipments.
Marine atlantic inc
The close relationship with the state owned company Marine Atlantic Inc origin way back. For decades Stena RoRo has been working with MAI, being based on the east coast of Canada. Our projects have been from chartering activities to major conversion projects. Stena RoRo has even sold vessels to them which the last two are presently trading in their liner service. They are called Blue Puttees and Highlanders. Their sailing routes are between Newfoundland and Labrador.
Stena has a close bond to P&O as a ship supplier for charter tonnage, mainly freighters. But also as a strong competitor on the North Sea and the Irish Sea for Stena RoRos cousin company Stena Line. During 1998 P&O and Stena Line joined forces and became P&O Stena Line with trade between Dover and Calais. The joint venture ended in 2002 after P&O announced its intention to buy out the stake owned by Stena, thereafter P&O became P&O Ferries.
Through the services provided by Stena RoRo, the Stena Foreteller was chartered out to Stora Enso in 2006. The vessel was modified so that the cargo could be block stowed rather than individually secured, which is better suited for the customers need of loading their own specially designed cargo unit, the Stora Enso Cargo Unit or SECU box. It is a specialized container that is easily loaded on railway wagons and easily transferred to RoRo vessels.
transprocon – SWEDISH ORIENT LINE (SOL)
The collaboration with Transprocon, who specializes in military operation shipments, has been instrumental in modifying our Stena 4-Runner Mk-I and Mk-II for various Ministry of Defence operations.
Transfennica is a major operator with its origins in shipping forest products, but has developed more into an all-around carrier with a wide variety of cargo. The complex cargo mix in the Transfennica network comprises, for example, StoRo (paper rolls directly loaded on the RoRo cargo deck), containers on cassettes, paper rolls on cassettes and LoLo (Lift On/Lift Off) containers on the weather deck.
Stena RoRo has provided numerous vessels on charter to Transfennica throughout the years. The work has been carried out in cooperation with Transfennica throughout the process in order to ensure fulfilment of cargo owner needs.
Trasmediterránea has been an important client of Stena RoRo for decades, chartering various class vessels such as Stena 4-Runner Mk-I for their liner services. Trasmediterránea is the leading shipowner for domestic trade in Spain, today part of Naviera Armas.
